A healthy connection: earning rewards on my wellness journey

In my ongoing journey towards improved health and wellness, I embarked on the adventure of connecting health apps to a wellness program (which I won't name directly). This step was crucial to unlocking the rewards and discounts that awaited me. In this blog post, I'll share my experience, challenges, and the initial points I earned on this wellness voyage.

Connecting Strava and Garmin

One of my first challenges was to connect Strava, a fitness tracking app I use regularly, to the wellness program. After patiently waiting for ten days, I noticed that the connection was still eluding me. I reached out to the insurer for help and they suggested the classic "disconnect and reconnect" solution. While this seems plausible, only time will tell if it resolves the issue. In contrast, connecting my trusty Garmin watch was a breeze, almost immediate, and set a promising tone for the journey ahead with that device.

Earning Points

I had high hopes of earning 500 points for every I hour spend running. It turned out unfortunately, that there was a maximum cap of 150 points for this category of activities per day. This detail wasn't crystal clear when I signed up.... Undeterred, I explored other point-earning avenues.

Surveys and Questionnaires

One pleasant surprise was the availability of surveys and questionnaires I could complete to earn points. These short, 2-5 minute activities yielded THOUSANDS of points! While most are only offered once a year, they will provid a significant boost to my point tally. As I schedule my regular check-ups, including blood pressure tests and immunisations, I'm steadily progressing towards the Silver status level. To ultimately cross the Silver line, I'll also need additional health check-ups like optometrist visits and more.

Point Caps and Progress

It's essential to note that there's a cap on the maximum points awarded each year for activities. This means that I'll eventually reach the top level, but at a maximum of 150 points per day, with points dropping off after a rolling 365-day period. I'm a few months away from unlocking the coveted 50% off airfares, and the journey continues...

As I venture deeper into this wellness program, I'm discovering that the path to health is not just rewarding for my well-being but also for my wallet.

Stay tuned for the next chapter as I explore the integration of personal fitness data and delve deeper into the world of wellness rewards...
